Already known as the biggest party in the world, the Oktoberfest in The origins of the Oktoberfest date back to the 17th of october 1810. That day, a horserace was organized in order to celebrate the royal wedding between Ludwig of Bavaria and the princess Teresa de Hildburghausen. Actually, the event location was named after the princess: “Theresienwiese” – this is the area where the Oktoberfest still takes place every year. During its 200 years of existence, the Oktoberfest was cancelled 24 times because of war or epidemics. This year, a historic reconstruction of the festival in former centuries will be opened, featuring an old Oktoberfest-tent, nostalgic carrousel and an exhibition of domestic and working animals of those times. One of the many highlights will be the horse-races, which are planned to be held twice a day. The entrance to the 32 giant and smaller beer tents is for free; however, it’s advisable to arrive early on the weekends in order to secure yourself a place at the long beer tables. If you want to immerge yourself in the Bavarian traditions and celebrate this special occasion with visitors from the whole world, then the Oktoberfest is the perfect opportunity!
