VALENCIA, SPAIN - It is popularly known as the Capital of Turia, located on the shore of the river with the same name. Regarding the city’s history and the different cultures that have come through it, we can say that the city is an outdoor museum where centenarian buildings exist side by side with the most avant-garde structures. The city boasts the Lonja de la Seda (1482-1498), monument declared World Heritage Site in 1996 which is likely to be the most representative piece of civil gothic in Europe. Besides the Lonja there is the Mercado Central (Central Market) and the Church of Santos Juanes. The Eixample neighbourhood (the urban expansion area) is characterized by its art nouveau architecture.
One of Valencia’s most recent attractions is the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences) along with the Oceanogràfic, a genuine marine park that embraces the main seas and oceans of the planet. It covers 110.000 square metres and a volume of 42 million litres (the equivalent of 15 Olympic pools), making up the greatest oceanarium in Europe.
